0Watch more than 16 minutes of commented Quantum Break gameplay
Remedy’s creative director Sam Lake walks gamers through more than 16 minutes of footage from Quantum Break, the studio’s story-driven third-person action game exclusive to the Xbox One. The clip is an extended one of what we got to see back in August, which you can check out here, and the developer commentary gives us some insight into the actions of protagonist Jack Joyce as he traverses a bridge while combating Monarch forces to reach the other main character Beth Wilder.
We learn that an experiment gone bad results in Jack acquiring an ability to manipulate time shifts, which means that we get to see some time amplified gameplay, as he attempts to prevent time from becoming more unstable. The failed research also results in his former friend Paul Serene turning into what appears to be the main antagonist, as the latter heads up the Monarch forces.
In the video, after an initial plan to reach the pier and escape via a boat goes awry, Jack uses his abilities to defeat a bunch of armed Monarch guys, following which some elite enemies in exoskeletons show up, armed with tech that allow them to operate within the time stutters as well. This results in an interesting cat-and-mouse skirmish, which concludes with the player releasing a car caught in a time stutter to crash onto the enemy. The latter part of the demo also reveals how Jack’s powers can be used to solves platforming-related puzzles.
