A week ago, Fatshark’s Warhammer: End Times – Vermintide was released for the PC, so while we are late on this, we have decided to nonetheless post the launch trailer, a number of screenshots and several action reels showing off gameplay with the different heroes. The game is expected to arrive in Q1 2016 for the Xbox One and PS4.
The trailer celebrating the first-person action title’s release is a cinematic one from Swedish visual effects and animation production studio Bläck, and it gives us a look at the story as the power hungry Skaven rise up from the underground and wreak havoc in the city of Ubersreik. The game is priced at $29.99/€27.99/£22.99, though one will have to shell out 44.99/€39.99/£33.99 for the Collector’s edition (which includes the official soundtrack from Jesper Kyd as well as some exclusive in-game items.
The game lets one choose from five heroes, each with distinctive abilities and necessitating different playstyles. There’s the Bright Wizard AKA Sienna Fuegonasus who excels at pyromancy, and uses fast and fiery attacks to incinerate the enemy in the clip below. Having initially arrived in the city as a Witch Hunter’s prisoner, she now can use staves as well as wizard mace, wizard sword and flaming sword to crush the enemy.
Victor Saltzpyre is a veteran Witch Hunter of the Holy Order of the Templars of Sigmar, and he specializes in delivering swift death to the enemy with his mastery of pistols, though he can also wield a crossbow, rapier, battle axe or great sword, thereby making him ideal for dealing with varied combat situations.
Kerillian of the Wood Elves is the Waywatcher, and her sharp sight and skill with the bow is something the enemy may underestimate at their own peril. She can deploy different arrows including Hagbane (poison) and Trueflight which have diverse effects, and can also use duel daggers, swords or a combination of the two to deadly effect.
Markus Kruber is a veteran Empire soldier who was the lone survivor in his regiment on the battlefields of Ostland when most of his comrades were killed by a necromancer. He and Saltzpyre were the two escorting the aforementioned Bright Wizard to stand trial. With a focus on melee damage, Markus uses great swords, great hammers, maces and shields, though he can also rely on the handgun, blunderbuss or repeater handgun for when ranged violence is necessary.
Finally, there’s Bardin Goreksson, a Dwarf ranger of the Grey Mountains who does not hesitate to charge into the enemy. He has journeyed to Ubersreik to prcure a tome which could possibly help decipher an ancient map to Zarak Zorn, the lost hold of the dwarves. Skilled in the use of the Dwarven Great Axe, Dwarven Great Hammer, Dwarven Battle Axe, Dwarven War Hammer as well as the shield, he is not ignorant of the utility of the Dwarven Cross Bow, Dwarven Hand Gun and the Grduge-Raker.
Last but far from the least is this lengthy video providing an overview of the co-op hack ‘n’ slash game. The clip starts off by focusing on the core of the game, which is the visceral melee and ranged combat using different weaponry that the five heroes can wield, and how the game ensures accurate hit detection and satisfying feedback for each blow that you strike against the enemy. It reveals the dice-based reward system, which grants one loot based upon one’s performance during a mission. The Forge allows one to personalize weapons and make them more powerful, while greater difficulty also means better rewards. The city boasts of varied locations, including the under-empire of the rat-men. There are different types of enemies in the Skaven, from Rat ogres to slaves to those armed with a Gatling gun.
