Volition have issued the first in a series of developer diaries providing viewers with an exclusive look behind the scenes of the creation of Saints Row IV, the fourth game in the open-word third-person action franchise. Senior Producer Jim Boone talks about how the series always stood out from other games in the genre, particular due to its crazy brand of humour, over-the-top action and freedom within the game world.

Creative Director Steve Jaros and Lighting Lead Chris Claflin expand on the huge open playground filled with silly stuff to do and see, to ensure players experience what most games today have forgotten: the fun factor. Saints Row IV ‘Independence Day’ trailer

In USA tomorrow is Independence day and to celebrate the occasion, Deep Sliver has released a new trailer for their upcoming over-the-top action, open-world game Saint Row 4. The trailer below showoff the games protagonist, who is former head of the Third saints, has become the president of United States of America, battling with an alien race called Zen, who have invaded the earth. There’s also spaceship combat, mech-combat, text playing RPG sequence and lot of other crazy things.

Deep Silver has confirmed that Saints Row 4 will be released on 20 August in the US and 23 August in Europe. Watch the trailer below

Saints Row IV 10-minute E3 gameplay footage screams mayhem, over-the-top action

Volition has released a ten-minute long video of Saints Row IV, showcasing footage of the open-world third-person action game that was shown in the E3 demo. Senior Producer Jim Boone starts off the clip by showing how the leader of the Saints is now the President of the United States, accompanied by Ben King as the Chief of Staff, and is not doing so well in the polls, when an alien invasion commences starting at the White House. The main character subsequently proceeds to the Oval Office to secure some weaponry, even as several of his allies are beamed up into spaceships by the aliens.

The player fights his way through to the south Portico, where he enters a huge turret to shoot down some alien ships, but is unable to stop the Washington Monument from being severely damaged. He then enters a downed battleship and engages in a brawl with the enemy, but soon learns that his opponent has powers like teleportation and telekinesis, tilting the battle in the latter’s scale. The video then jumps forwards to a virtual version of Steelport wherein the player has obtained superpowers, and we get see displays of some spectacular moves such as Death from Above, super speed, Buff (which sets nearby enemies as well as the players weapons rounds on fire) and Stomp that sends out a concussive blast.

We also get a look at some of the weapons from the huge arsenal in the game, such as the Soakmaster/Burst Rifle and the Singularity Gun/Black Hole Launcher, which does just what it says, as well as the Laser Razor/Energy Sword, which allows for some nice slicing and dicing action. Boone also introduces Clusters, which can be collected across the city and used to upgrade the protagonist’s abilities. Side activities tied in with our hero’s newfound superpowers include Blazing, which is basically a speed run while trying to avoid flames in your path. Another fascinating new activity is Mind Over Murder by Professor Genki, wherein players must use Telekinesis to toss certain objects/individuals into specified target areas. Saints Row IV releases on 20 August on the PC, Xbox 360 and PS3.

Deep Silver and Volition have released a new trailer for Saints Row IV, the next iteration in the famous/infamous third-person action adventure franchise. The video is called “Meet the President”, and as soon as you see the clip you realise why he is unlike any previous commander-in-chief the USA has ever had. Yep, the trailer gives new meaning to the phrase cracking down on illegal aliens!

Players will assume the role of the president defending the earth from an alien invasion and meting out equal parts awesome and terrifying Saints-style carnage to the little green ones (the Zin). Promising more outrageous action, humour and a second-to-none array of powers and abilities, Saints Row IV is scheduled for release on 20 August in the US and on 23 August in the UK for the PC, Xbox 360 and PS3.
