Ubisoft has announced that gamers can now register at http://rainbow6.ubi.com/siege/ for a shot at getting in the upcoming closed Beta for Rainbow Six: Siege.

This differs vastly from the closed Alpha as the latter was PC-exclusive, while the Beta will be for the Xbox One and PS4 as well. While the Alpha involves a very early build of a game in which a limited number of players test for bugs and stability to provide essential community feedback, the Beta – which will have more content and be better optimised – allows for a larger number of players who will test for matchmaking issues, server stability, changes necessary in the way of game balancing and so on.

A final point to note is that those who pre-order the game get guaranteed access to the closed beta.

Ubisoft has posted a new video for Rainbow Six: Siege, detailing the cover and navigation system of the upcoming shooter. This video is the part of their monthly web series called Behind the Wall Series where the community developer Chase Straight talks about some of the core gameplay elements that are implemented to make the game more realistic and more tactical

Their new dynamic cover system and free lean system gives full control over the character. For instance while performing an action such as setting up a defensive wall, you don’t have to follow the entire cinematic sequence instead you can cancel the animation at any time so that you take pull out your weapon to kill enemy around you.

Chase also explains the free lean system which will basically allow you to lean left or right at any point of time. This system is very useful to create cover freely in the environment

To learn more about the cover and leaning system visit Rainbow Six: Siege official blog.

The latest trailer for Rainbow Six: Siege focuses on primarily two things: the various accolades the game received at E3 this year due to its explosive gameplay debut, and the numerous ways one can revel in unscripted procedural destruction thanks to the Realblast engine. Various infiltrations options are available to Rainbow Six teams from rappelling down sides of a structure and entering through windows to setting an explosive charge and breaching through a wall by creating your own ingress.

Tactics are key in ensuring ones victory as the criminal elements need to utilise options such as reinforcing walls and doors, laying barbed wire and fortifying their positions, while the assault teams rely on drones to gather intel on enemy locations, use shields to protect from incoming small-arms fire and tactically enter positions to carry out swift takedowns and secure and exfiltrate hostages. Siege is expected to launch on the PC, Xbox One and PS4 in 2015.

Ubisoft Montreal’s pre-alpha footage of the Hostage Rescue mission in Rainbow Six: Siege blew everyone away at E3, and now we have some screenshots and a piece of artwork to scrutinise in detail the procedural destruction and tactical gameplay that makes this shooter stand out. The artwork emphasises the cops v/s criminals theme of the FPS, while it and the screenshots also illustrate how the procedural destruction made possible by the Realblast engine can change the way the game plays out.

One can breach floors, windows, walls and roofs with explosive s, while bullets literally can rip through cover and walls, forcing you to make tactical decisions on the fly. Of course, you can fortify your position by erecting barricades with barbed wire, reinforcing walls and even deploying shields, though the team assaulting can also choose various points of ingress, making for fast-paced intense combat situations.

Ubisoft Montreal debuted around six-minutes of gameplay footage from Rainbow Six: Siege, their first-person tactical shooter based on their proprietary Realblast engine set to arrive on the PC, Xbox One and PS4 in 2015. The 5vs5 mission shown involved rescuing a hostage from a house in a Boston suburb occupied by criminals who had barricaded several doors and windows ahead of the expected breach.

It was revealed that there will be numerous approaches/infiltration options, and the subsequent gameplay involved some tense moments as the good guys tried to rescue the hostage and extract her safely while the opposing side had to prevent this from happening at any cost. Excellent close-quarters firefights, door and floor breaches, shooting through walls, procedural destruction (walls, doors, windows, floors and so on), riots shields and sniper rifles; its all there.
