Debut trailer, first screenshots of PS4-exclusive open-world adventure-puzzler Rime

A very cool game announced for the PS4 at Cologne was Rime, an open-world adventure-puzzler by indie studio Tequila Works, and you can view its trailer and scrutinise its screenshots here. The game is set in a fantastical realm and it revolves around a young lad’s attempts to escape a mysterious island; the screens below illustrate the colourful and scenic locations one can expect to traverse while on the beautiful island.

The trailer gives us a bit more to ponder, as it shows the boy travelling across the lush tropical island, which seems to be inhabited by animals and birds, while heading towards a large white tower. The main character also manipulates metallic orbs to solve puzzles, and we see a petrified statue of a humanoid turning to dust when touched by the protagonist. Platforming elements are also in, as can be seen as the boy climbing several structures.

UE4-powered Pneuma: Breath of Life heads to Xbox One in January; debut trailer, screenshots here

A new title revealed for the Xbox One is Pneuma: Breath of Life, a first-person puzzler being developed using Unreal Engine 4 announced by Deco Digital and Bevel Studios. The game puts you in the awesome role of a god called Pneuma as you explore his world, solve various puzzles including intriguing environmental challenges that require one to think outside the box, all while listening to the main character’s “comical self-obsessed inner monologue”.

It is refreshing to see a game powered by UE4 that isn’t a simple shooter, as this genre allows players to immerse themselves in the visually unique world and take the time to explore their surroundings and revel in the experience. The focus of the gameplay is on perception and analysis, rather than skill-based, which means that you can expect to use your brain instead of button-mashing your way to a solution/outcome. Pneuma: Breath of Life will launch in January 2015 via the Xbox One Marketplace; it is unclear if it will arrive on any other platforms as well, though the possibility of this happening has not been ruled out.

Extended Gameplay Trailer for PS4/PS Vita isometric puzzler Pavilion

Visiontrick Media has issued the following trailer to showcase some gameplay from Pavilion, giving people an extended look at what was shown of the isometric puzzler at the E3 PlayStation booth. Set to arrive on the PS4 and PS Vita later this year, the title is a unique fourth-person puzzle adventure wherein players need to observe the main characters action and behaviour, as well as the environmental layout and interactive objects to figure out how these intermingle to produce desired reactions/results.

The game is termed “fourth person” as you can’t directly control the main character, but rather interact with the environment to guide and influence him. The premise, art style and gameplay have certainly piqued our interest; this is definitely one to keep on your radar.

UK-based studio nDreams recently announced an atmospheric first-person puzzle-adventure The Assembly for the PC and PS4 with Oculus Rift and Project Morpheus support respectively; here are its trailer and screenshots from E3. Designed primarily for use with VR headsets, the game focuses on exploration inside a secret science lab whose members believe that morality only stands in the way of true scientific progress.

The fact that it lets you control two different characters is especially prominent when one uses a VR headset, due to the differences in their height and voices. The trailer below attempts to provide a sense of the story-driven and atmospheric nature of the game, which is scheduled to launch alongside the aforementioned VR devices, so that’s an unknown on its date of release.

Trailer and screenshots for humorous puzzler Flockers from Worms developer Team17

Team17 has revealed its all-new IP with the following trailer and accompanying images; Flockers is a puzzler set in a steampunk-type world wherein players must safely guide sheep though various dastardly puzzles. The game will arrive on the PC via Steam in Q2 this year. The clip below features a bit of dark humour as a little lamb unwittingly aids in the demise of several fellow sheep.

Check out the various screenshots below, which are from an alpha build of the game, and depict a bunch of helpless sheep evading (or attempting to evade) some fiendishly placed evil-looking contraptions designed to hasten their demise.

Danish developer Press Play’s cinematic side-scrolling puzzle-platformer is now out for the Xbox One, and hence we have the following trailer and the multitude of images marking its launch. Max: The Curse of Brotherhood is a story-driven adventure in which players will traverse twenty levels across seven distinctive realms as the titular hero out to locate and rescue his little brother, Felix, from unknown evil forces.

Aiding you in doing so is Magic Marker and five magical powers, so one must utilise their wits and reflexes to ensure their victory in solving creative puzzles and overcoming obstacles in their journey across deserts, ancient temples, spooky bogs and lush green forests. This fascinating little 2.5D sidescroller is available now for only $14.99.

Slovakian indie studio Fishcow Studio has issued the first batch of screenshots of Gomo, their adorable comic-style point & click exploration game in which the titular hero sets out to save his dog Dingo from the aliens. The game is a non-combat title, focusing on the player exploring the environment, solving puzzles by gathering various items and utilising them to overcome obstacles. Gomo is being published by Daedalic Entertainment, and will be out on PC on 6 December for $9.99/£7 via Steam. Check out the images below, which feature a unique appealing hand-drawn art style.

Beautiful vaudevillian platformer Contrast gets some stunning concept art

Compulsion Games’ gorgeous puzzler-platformer set in a vaudevillian world of the 1920’s gets another batch of concept artwork today, focusing on the characters and locales players can expect to see once Contrast releases this November on the PC (via Steam), Xbox 360 (via XBLA), PS3 and PS4 (via PSN). The following images by Concept artist Whitney Clayton depict characters such as Didi, astounding magician the Great Vincenzo and Dawn, who can traverse the 3D world as well as the 2d environment as a silhouette; environments shown include the funhouse, the circus and the lighthouse.
