The developers referred to real-world locations such as the city of Seville in Spain, the town of Assisi in Italy and the Palais des Papes/Papal palace in Avignon (France) while creating Karthal. The port consists of two large areas – the harbour, where large markets and mansions belonging to affluent merchants, diplomats and wizards are situated; the Upper District houses the palace (Vigil) and the City Council; the slums under the city’s aqueduct are where the not so rich and unfortunate dwell. The notorious Blackfang runs a black market in the shantytown, where many shady mercenary companies also render their services.

Then there are undead opponents such as the wild and extremely destructive Ghouls, which are spirits of the dead inhabiting lifeless corpses bound by magic, and they carry an extreme dislike for the living. Meanwhile, Skeletons are ranged enemies who will employ spears to hasten your demise. The Air and Fire elementals illustrated below suggest that there will also be opponents of the magical variety, so one can rest assured that there will be plenty to challenge your skill.
