While the Call of Duty series is loved (and hated) for its dominant position in the FPS genre, it appears that a third-person title was in the works at Sledgehammer Games, and here’s some concept art showcasing what it could have entailed. The trio of images, from the portfolio of concept artist Eddie Del Rio, depict a Vietnam setting in which we see a solider on his knees near a campfire and a downed helicopter with a enemy holding a blade standing nearby, indicating that the former is being ready for execution via decapitation.

The other two pics show soldiers attempting to escape an plane crashed onto the ground looking all set to explode, and a settlement atop some cliffs with hanging bridges and a waterfall in the background. A game set in Vietnam focusing on delivering an emotional impact may have made for an interesting change in pace for the genre, considering that modern and futuristic shooters appear to be the rage now. But who knows, if Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare works out well enough, the project might just be renewed sometime in the future?
