IO Interactive reveals first info on next Hitman game

In an open letter to fans of this long-running stealth-action franchise, IO Interactive revealed a few titbits on the next instalment featuring everyone’s favourite bald-headed assassin. As expected, the upcoming game is being developed for the PC as well as next-gen consoles; the title is based upon the core of the Glacier 2 engine, which was used to excellent effect in the previous game in the series. The game will see Agent 47 travelling around the world completing missions while being guided by Diana Burnwood, his handler with the International Contract Agency (ICA).

The developers have stated that they intend to create large open levels free of checkpoints, which means that players can expect full freedom in planning and carrying out assassinations, with method of execution open to their choice. A somewhat controversial move is the removal of “47’s magic pockets”, which suggest that inventory management will be crucial to a successful and well-planned and executed mission.

A bit of good news for those who enjoyed absolution is that the Contracts Mode, wherein players could create custom challenges with set levels and compete with friends, will be back. Expect more info on the new Hitman game – which looks to be bigger (and better?) – in the months to come.
