Humans and Trolls battle it out in pre-Alpha Runemaster screenshot

Paradox Development Studio’s Runemaster – based on Norse mythology – gets a new screenshot this week, illustrating combat between humans and trolls in the upcoming epic RPG. The game allows players to recruit and customise units, and lead them in turn-based tactical action which revolves around various elements, such as the importance of line of sight and using bonuses acquiring by engaging an opponent from higher ground (incite terror and cause them to panic or flee).

What this means is that terrain plays a notable role in fights, and this factor should not be overlooked as it could mean the difference between victory and defeat. The developers also reveal that while all units have health, some also don armour, which means that attacks dealing normal as well as piercing damage will be important in taking down varied opponents, so one should choose and combine their units accordingly. Finally, bear in mind that this is a pre-Alpha image, so visual quality and other changes are possible prior to the game’s final release.
