0Darkest Dungeon artworks illustrate playable character classes
Red Hook Studios’ roguelike RPG featuring turn-based combat receives a bunch of new images, illustrating the various playable characters who will delve into derelict crypts, dark lairs and other such forbidding locations while taking on various assorted monsters during their journey. What makes this game different from other such titles in the genre is not only its unique and appealing hand-drawn gothic art style but the fact that Darkest Dungeon lends much weightage to the mental status of your heroes, an element largely ignored.
Logically it makes sense that even the most seasoned of warriors would be gradually demoralised by the psychological stresses of facing horrifying enemies, this adds a very interesting component to the gameplay, where maintain a characters mental status is of more significance than their armour/weapons etc. Adding to the mix are features like procedural dungeons, permadeath, a Town meta-game and of course tons of loot, including upgradeable gear. The images below shows a number of playable character classes, including the skilled warrior Hellion, the Bounty Hunter, the Crusader, the Houndmaster, the Plague Doctor, the Highwayman and the Leper. The Kickstarter-backed project was successfully funded and is now ploughing through numerous stretch goals, which you can check out here.
