Announcement and walkthrough trailers of Ubisoft’s open-world racing game The Crew
Ubisoft unveiled quite a few interesting titles at its E3 conference, and one of those is The Crew, an open-world racing game being developed by Ivory Tower and Reflections currently set for release early next year on the PC, Xbox One and PS4. The game is set in an open-world recreation of the United States, and revolves around the concept of numerous players forming crews/teams of upto for members and completing challenges and races while upgrading and customising their rides on their journey to achieve greatness in the racing world.
The Crew appears to consist of a free ride mode as well as various missions, so players can always take the time to relax and drive, choosing to complete side tasks and other miscellaneous activities in between key missions trying to infiltrate a criminal organisation. Creative director Julian Gerighty talks about how the game seeks to redefine the racing genre and a Takedown mission set in Miami involving four players from across the US.
The walkthrough starts off with the first player kicking off an illegal race in Brooklyn (New York) driving a Chevrolet Camaro SS 2010; the second player in the Black Hills National Park driving a customised Ford F-150 SVT Raptor 2010 which suits the rough terrain attempting skill challenges; the third player races across the Las Vegas Cantons in a Ford Mustang GT 2011 (I might be drooling at this bit) trying to beat the ghost car of a friend on the desert trail; and finally, we have the last player – Paul – rolling around in a Chevrolet Camaro RS 1969 in sunny Miami.
Paul calls in the other players – who fast travel to Miami – to aid in completing a particularly challenging mission, and we see that the online/offline aspect is seamless, with no visible separation between the two, prevents break in immersion. Gerighty talks about the deep customisation system, allowing you to tailor your car from the engine to the rims according to a particular playstyle, mission or challenge. The four players subsequently launch a co-op mission seeking to takedown a rival driver from another faction driving a heavily armoured Humvee.
The chase leads across varied terrain types, including parks, back streets and alleyways, main roads and even the beach. Players are rewarded according to their individual performance, in in the walkthrough Paul takes down the opponent, earning some cash, a Platinum medal as well as enough XP to advance a level. The video ends as a rival crew emerges on the scene. Teamwork and cooperation seems to be the key here; watch the videos to see the action!
